The Atmospheric Sciences and Global Change Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a postdoctoral research associate to develop and apply new model parameterizations for investigating the interactions between aerosols and clouds. Aerosol-cloud-chemistry interactions represent some of the largest uncertainties affecting our understanding of the Earth’s energy budget. We use laboratory and field measurements to advance our understanding of aerosol and cloud processes and develop modeling tools to enhance the predictive ability of Earth System models.

The incumbent will work on key research directions such as: (1) improving process representation of the interactions of secondary organic aerosols (SOA) chemistry with clouds and convection (2) investigate new features with respect to SOA cloud chemistry at large eddy simulation (LES) scales and connect these insights with regional and global models (3) investigate how cloud processes affect aerosol properties in the atmosphere and vice versa using different modeling techniques.
