Description

We present data detailing the use of the CAPS PMssa monitor in two different circumstances to provide an indirect, but precise and accurate, measurement of particle absorption. The first concerns the development of the ESCoM (Engine Soot Compliance) Monitor for the precise, accurate, and fast time response measurement of soot emission indices (soot emitted per fuel burned) from aircraft and diesel engines. Direct comparisons with data obtained using both laser-induced incandescence (LII) and photo acoustic absorption (PAS)-based monitors with an aircraft engine are presented. The second part of the presentation concerns the measurement of ambient aerosol obtained in Athens, Greece using the CAPS PMssa monitor and a comparison with data obtained using an aethalometer.
