Description

Within the Cross-Scale Land Atmosphere Experiment (CSLAEX) that took place in May and June, 2016 in Oklahoma, we tested Taylor's frozen turbulence hypothesis. To do so we used novel distributed temperature sensing that measures temperature at 1Hz every 10 cm. We showed that Taylor's hypothesis fails in the inertial subrange and instead of being constant, the coverage velocity exhibits a -1/3 slope with wave number. We provide a correction for typical eddy covariance systems and show that they underestimate surface fluxes.
