Atmospheric Scientist – Tenure Track Faculty Position

The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (UPRRP) seeks to fill a full-time tenure-track teaching position in atmospheric sciences to teach, conduct research, and contribute to the management of the atmospheric research facilities at the university
beginning January 1, 2024.

UPRRP has two atmospheric stations in Puerto Rico, the Cape San Juan atmospheric observatory (CSJ, also known as CPR), located in eastern Puerto Rico at the nature reserve of Las Cabezas de San Juan; and the Pico del Este atmospheric observatory, a cloud forest mountaintop station, located about
15 km away of CSJ in the Luquillo Mountains (LM), part of El Yunque National Forest. These field stations support measurements of meteorology, aerosol, and cloud particle optical, physical, and chemical properties and up and downwelling radiation. Similar facilities are located on the main campus in an urban setting. Federal funding has been secured to promote the teaching and training of students in atmospheric sciences. In addition, the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research Program at UPRRP seeks collaborators in the study of climate change effects on upper elevation forests  in the LM. Thus, substantial infrastructure and research opportunities exist to support this position.
