Postdoctoral Researcher-Atmospheric Science

 

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is excited to offer an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in atmospheric and land-surface modeling in urban areas to study urban heat extremes under future climate change. Research will entail model development in a new exascale atmospheric code, including representation of urban and complex terrain and implementing land-surface models for urban areas. Multiscale simulations forced by future climate data will be conducted to assess impacts on urban areas and explore mitigation pathways. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, programmers, and project managers to develop, implement and apply these modeling capabilities in a state-of-the art environmental simulation framework, which will then be used to explore risk assessment, infrastructure planning, and climate change mitigation pathways. Familiarity with numerical methods and physical process modeling approaches for the atmosphere, land-surface, and urban areas is desired. This position is in the Atmospheric, Earth & Energy Division, Atmospheric Science Research and Applications Group.
