The Atmospheric Climate and Earth Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a postdoctoral research associate to improve our process-level understanding of the interactions between secondary organic aerosols (SOA) and clouds and develop parameterizations of those processes in the Weather Research and Forecasting Model coupled to chemistry (WRF-Chem) and the Energy Exascale Earth System Model running at global convection-permitting resolutions.

The incumbent will work on (1) developing an understanding of SOA formation processes related to biogenic, biomass burning and anthropogenic sources through atmospheric chemistry based on recent laboratory and field measurements (2) improving the representation of aerosol and cloud chemistry of SOA and its coupling with clouds and convection (3) Investigating new features with respect to aerosol new particle formation and chemistry within individual cloud droplets, and (4) connect these insights with regional and global models. The incumbent will work in close collaboration with atmospheric scientists at PNNL.
