Atmospheric System Research (ASR) in the Climate and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD), Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) of the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), supports research on key cloud, aerosol, precipitation, and radiative transfer processes that affect the Earth’s radiative balance and hydrological cycle, especially processes that limit the predictive ability of regional and global models. Details are available in the funding opportunity announcement (FOA) DE-FOA-0001845 PDF.

DE-FOA-0001845 Atmospheric System Research (ASR)

ASR hereby announces its interest in research grant applications for observational, data analysis, and/or modeling studies that use observations supported by CESD, including the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research Facility and ASR, to improve understanding and model representation of specified aerosol processes, high-latitude atmospheric processes, and ice cloud processes.

Pre-applications are required and must be submitted through the DOE Office of Science Portfolio Analysis and Management System by 5 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

Pre-applications may not exceed two pages and should provide a clear and concise description of the objectives and technical approach of the proposed research, as well as how the proposed research is responsive to the FOA. More details on the required pre-application information are given in the funding announcement. Applicants for multi-institutional projects should submit a single pre-application by the lead institution identifying all project participants. It is the responsibility of the applicant to include sufficient information in the pre-application to enable evaluation of responsiveness to the terms of the announcement.

Full proposals will be due on February 28, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, and must be submitted through

Please note that individuals may participate as senior personnel on no more than two applications and as lead Principal Investigator on no more than one application.

Please send all inquiries regarding these announcements directly to ASR Program Managers Shaima Nasiri and Ashley Williamson.
