Description

The Eastern North Atlantic (ENA) atmospheric observatory is the newest measurement site established by the ARM Climate Research Facility and operated by a team from Los Alamos National Laboratory. This observatory is located on Graciosa Island in the Azores archipelago, located in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean west of Portugal. This region of the world is characterized by marine stratocumulus clouds. The ENA is providing a rare, long-term robust and physically accurate data set about the response of these low clouds to changes in atmospheric greenhouse gases and aerosols—a major source of uncertainty in global and regional climate and process-based numerical models. We present current and future campaign highlights as well as collaborative opportunities (including new aerial facilities) in support of atmospheric and climatic sciences.
