Breakout Description

This session shared the compute capabilities (GPU Capabilities/Visualization Tools) that are currently available to the users and gathered feedback from existing users of these capabilities. It discussed how to improve your
scientific impact factor by providing good-quality data and metadata. The ARM Strategy Team (ASST) members also discussed the data and computer services vision using the recently developed data vision white paper and collected feedback and user requirements.

Main Discussion

The ARM Data Center is currently evaluating various next-generation computer architectures to support ARM data processing, research use, visualization, and analysis. An engineering change request (ENG0001061) has been submitted to gather requirements for computer clusters to help with the following data processing for ARM scanning radars at the megasite. The scope for this cluster includes:

1) Routine operation of LASSO

2) Routine data processing of big data (example: scanning radars)

3) Data analytics and visualization of big data using No-SQL (example: Hadoop and Casandra )

4) Research user data processing (example: users of BDS clusters).

We will request ARM staff involved in the above activities to provide the requirements; this will help the ARM Data Center evaluate different cluster options and develop a scalable design for ARM data needs.
