Breakout Description

The main purpose of this breakout session is to plan the upcoming Aerosol and Cloud Experiments in Eastern North Atlantic (ACE-ENA) field campaign.

Main Discussion

Following brief introductions by Jian Wang, Kim Nitschke, and Beat Schmid, the following topics were discussed:

(1) Flight plans to address scientific questions organized by themes, including (a) Budget of MBL CCN and its Seasonal Variation, (b) Effects of Aerosol on Clouds and Precipitation, (c) Cloud Microphysical and Macrophysical Structures, and Entrainment Mixing, (d) Advancing Retrievals of Turbulence, Cloud, and Drizzle, and (e) Model Evaluation and Processes Studies.

(2) Coordination between the operations of scanning radars and the G-1 flights.

(3) Coordination between G-1 operation and the deployment of Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research Helicopter-borne measurement payload (ACTOS) in the summer of 2017.

(4) Forecasts during both IOPs for flight planning and decision-making.

(5) Staff needs during the IOPs
