This position is funded by Department of Energy for developing an innovative, synergistic retrieval method for cloud and precipitation, aiming to advance our process-level understanding of cloud microphysics and precipitation formation. The work is based on an iterative Ensemble approach, but may expand to neural networks, machine learning or similar techniques.

This position will report to Professor Christine Chiu.

The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University is a large academic and research department in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. We currently have twenty faculty members, eighty graduate students, over seventy full-time researchers and postdoctoral fellows, and outstanding and dedicated support staff.

Professor Christine Chiu’s research group, in the Department of Atmospheric Science, at Colorado State University (CSU) is pursuing research activities related to 1) the development of advanced retrieval methods for clouds, precipitation and aerosols, using a combination of radar, lidar, and radiometer from both surface- and space-based platforms; 2) three-dimensional radiative transfer and 3) cloud-aerosol-radiation interactions.
